Lets Try This Again...

After getting comments for everyone that I know... I am going to try this again.

What is your prerogative of a waterfall?

Chad,
The imagery of the waterfall really pulls together your site plans. It touches on the fluidity of movement that Frances is incorporating into her design. I don't think that having the floor plans be simple is a downfall. There is a nice dichotomy with having your site/landscape being very fluid and your buildings being very rigid and rectangular. The buildings are like rocks in the waterfall. I am not sure it would be beneficial to bring the fluidity into the buildings. This does go against the idea of bringing the outside in, but your design my require breaking this rule. Isn't that your prerogative?

Chad-

I like the pedestrian movement on the ground level. It really seems to be a project about ground movement. Maybe look at the movement on the upper levels and it doesn't just have to be horizontal, vertical movement can be a great impact on a project as well.

Chad,

Like the flow and interaction of the elements within the space to those who pass through. Powerful image of the water fall. The random paths with diffent widths helps with the visual experience of the space. Which provides a nice contrast and softens the buildings. Looking forward to watching you project develop.

Chad,

I like that you drew by hand, but your drawing style could be a little more controlled to read more like a plan.

Overall I think that linking the three cubes improved your scheme. Do you agree? However, the geometries are a bit odd, especially the diagonal link to the front cube. If that link just were a simple linear spine that had the stairs (linear, no corners!)associated with them (as opposed to squeezing them into the corners), wouldn't that work better? It might be a better contrast to the waterfall analogy that you use for the site stairs.

By the way: compliments on covering the whole site with ideas!

Now you need to take a better look at the architecture this week.

Nick's reading of your buildings as rocks along the waterfall is nice: these could be very precious and pristine rocks. Are you still planning on using a screening device as the main facade element?

Minor comment: the long narrow space between the upper cubes and the existing building is not convincing.

A working model will help you to get the massing/materials refined this week.

Good luck,
Enno

Chad,
The image of the waterfall really helps me see what you are trying to do with your circulation around the buildings. This model sure will be interesting. The first building next to the street will have the ability to bring people into the site from the traffic. I would want to see into it if I was walking by.
