I like the lower drawing...did you do that in SketchUp with one of the sketchy-render settings, or is that hand drawn? It's eye-catching, either way, partly due to the low-angle that's looking up and seeing the stair run away from you. Good stuff.
This is indeed a good start: you should captilize on this view by adding facades, the view out, and most importantly the overall atmosphere inside:light, color, materials.
